Basic VICIdial Configuration for New Users

VICIdial is a robust open-source autodialer used by call centers worldwide. This guide will help you perform the basic post-install configuration so you can quickly start running campaigns and taking calls.

Prerequisites

  • VICIdial must be installed and accessible via the web interface (see installation guide).
  • You have admin access to the VICIdial web panel.

Step 1: Log in to the VICIdial Admin Panel

  • Open your browser and go to your VICIdial server’s IP (e.g., http://192.168.1.2/vicidial/admin.php).
  • Login with your admin username and password.

Step 2: Change Default Passwords

Immediately change the default admin password for security.

  1. Go to Admin > Users.
  2. Edit the default admin user (usually 6666 and password 1234).
  3. Set a strong new password and save.

Step 3: Set Timezone and System Settings

  1. Go to Admin > System Settings.
  2. Set your correct timezone.
  3. Configure system options as needed for your country and call center needs.

Step 4: Configure Carriers (SIP Trunks)

To make and receive calls, configure at least one carrier.

  1. Go to Admin > Carriers > Add A New Carrier.
  2. Fill in your VoIP provider’s SIP settings.
  3. Example (replace with your provider details):
register => user:password@sip.provider.com:5060 [provider] type=friend username=user secret=password host=sip.provider.com context=trunkinbound insecure=port,invite canreinvite=no nat=yes
  1. Click Submit and then Reload to apply.

Step 5: Add Phones (Agent Extensions)

  1. Go to Admin > Phones > Add A New Phone.
  2. Create a phone (extension) for each agent.
  3. Assign a password and SIP protocol (SIP recommended).

Step 6: Add Users (Agents)

  1. Go to Admin > Users > Add A New User.
  2. Assign a user ID, password, and level (agent = 1, admin = 9).
  3. Assign the phone extension created earlier to each user.

Step 7: Set Up Campaigns and Lists

  1. Go to Campaigns > Add A New Campaign.
  2. Configure campaign options (dial method, caller ID, etc.).
  3. Add a new list and upload leads (CSV with phone numbers).

Step 8: Test Calls

  • Log in as an agent (use the phone and user credentials).
  • Join a campaign.
  • Place a manual or auto call to test setup.

Best Practices

  • Always change default passwords.
  • Use static IP for your server.
  • Regularly backup configuration and data.
  • Keep your VICIdial system updated.

  • No audio: Check firewall, NAT, and SIP settings.
